"The greatest danger in modern technology isn't that machines will begin to think like people, but that people will begin to think like machines"

What are the MS Online Dialogues?

AIESEC - Microsoft Online Dialogues aim at developing a greater understanding among AIESEC members on technology and the impact of IT on their lives. The dialogues are carried out in the form of online discussions on AIESEC.net, an international platform with an active member base of over 20000 youth from across the world. The output of these dialogues will be used to create a "Technology Handbook"

TECHNOLOGY AND AIESEC - GIVE YOUR INPUT!

Technology and AIESEC - your input appreciated!

How well has your university education and your AIESEC Experience prepared you for work and life in the world of technology around us? Are you really as tech-friendly as you think? And what technology related issues do you think need to be better understood by the leaders of tomorrow?

As part of the Corporate Responsibility Learning Network, we are conducting a survey looking for the answers to these kind of questions, in order to provide better technology-related learning experiences in AIESEC in the future.

Your input to this survey would be most appreciated - it will take only 5 minutes of your time, and the results will be a great resource for AIESEC in the future. Click here to fill in the survey, found on the Corporate Responsibility IG sub-community on AIESEC.net.

The results will be available at the end of July, along with the output of the 2005-06 Microsoft Online Dialogues initiative - two great resources for technology related learning anywhere in the world!

The Rights and Wrongs of .***

The decision by the the US-based non-profit body that runs the domain name system to reject proposals for .xxx could have wide-reaching repercussions for how the internet is run, writes internet law professor Michael Geist.

In the 1980s, seven generic top-level domains, including .com, .net, and .org, were established. Those domains remain among the most popular on the internet, with millions of registrations worldwide.

Since its inception in 1998, the introduction of new generic top-level domains has emerged as one of thorniest policy issues facing the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann), with the governance body approving seven new domains, including .biz and .info, in 2000.

Interest in the creation of yet additional domain name extensions remains high as the domain name registry business presents a lucrative opportunity to collect annual registration fees for potentially millions of new domain names.

Moreover, domain name registrars support additional domains as they provide new products to market to the internet community.

Icann's initial reluctance to establish dozens or hundreds of new top-level domains initially centered on fears that an influx of new domain name extensions might adversely impact the reliability of the internet.

Killer phrase will fill your PC with spam

THERE IS ONE phrase which, if you type into any search engine will expose your PC to shed-loads of spam, according to a new report.

Researchers Ben Edelman and Hannah Rosenbaum reckon that typing the phrase "Free Screensavers" into any search engine is the equivalent of lighting a blue touch paper and standing well back.

The writers of the report work for Site Advisor, recently acquired by AV firm McAfee, so might be said to have some self interest in all of this.

More than 64 per cent of sites that are linked to this phrase will cause you some trouble, either with spyware or adware. The report found 1,394 popular keywords searches found via Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and Ask that were linked to spyware or adware and the list is quite amusing. Do not type in the following words into any search engine:

Bearshare
Screensavers
Winmx
Limewire
Download Yahoo messenger
Lime wire
Free ringtones

Site Advisor reckons that the search engines should do more to point people who might type these words into their search engines away from the dodgy sites. µ
